Sisters of Shadow and Light by Sara B. Larson
Expected publication: November 5th 2019
“The night my sister was born, the stars died and were reborn in her eyes…”.
Zuhra and Inara have grown up in the Citadel of the Paladins, an abandoned fortress where legendary, magical warriors once lived before disappearing from the world―including their Paladin father the night Inara was born.
On that same night, a massive, magical hedge grew and imprisoned them within the citadel. Inara inherited their father’s Paladin power; her eyes glow blue and she is able to make plants grow at unbelievable rates, but she has been trapped in her own mind because of a “roar” that drowns everything else out―leaving Zuhra virtually alone with their emotionally broken human mother.
For fifteen years they have lived, trapped in the citadel, with little contact from the outside world…until the day a stranger passes through the hedge, and everything changes.
Gah so much intrigue! I’ll say here that I haven’t read any other books by this author yet and I’m not sure whether her previous books still hold my interest, but this book itself genuinely sounds too good to be true. I just love books of any genre where the MC is cut off from the rest of their world and through many discoveries find out more about their predicament and the rest of their world. In a story like this world building is going to be key as this idea does sound real original to YA fantasy and it definitely needs to be handled correctly in terms of characters and pacing though if done right I could easily see this becoming a new favourite. This is exactly the perfect blurb to lure the likes of me in as it doesn’t give a lot of the plot away yet it highlights the parts regarding the world and characters that intrigue me the most, so can the story inside actually deliver? I really want it to! 🙂
For some reason, the synopsis is giving me Strange the Dreamer vibes – but not fully. I soooooooo can’t wait to read this one too!
