The Wasted Potential Tag

There have been so many times I have read a book and thought everything about it, despite it having a great premise, was just a giant wasted hot mess. I think many other readers could also agree! This tag was created by Elise @ The Bookish Actress and I found it on Inside My Library Mind.

1. A Book That Tried But Failed to Tackle an Issue

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Blade Runner #1)

Opinions are my own. I was told when I picked this book up that it would be full of philosophical ideas roaming around what it means to be human and I had really high expectations, but when I actually read it I found everything confusing, not immersive and I didn’t pick up on any deep matters at all. I just found the book a big mess with too many average things in this world left unexplained and either I’m dumb or something, but I didn’t see anything really philosophical about this book and don’t understand why so many others love it.

2. An Intriguing Series That Did Not Pay Off

Matched (Matched, #1)Crossed (Matched, #2)Reached (Matched, #3)

Firstly let me say I have always loved those covers! This series started off really promising and I really liked the writing style but in the end I’d say the conclusion makes this whole series one big slow paced pointless read that is really not worth the time in my opinion, even I myself could think of many better ways to end this series!

3. A Great Beginning With a Mediocre Ending

Time's Legacy

More a confusing and boring ending than anything…. I don’t know… this book did have many good qualities and it started off really strong, but I think it went on for way too long and I had more or less lost interest by the end, but I will review this soon.

4. A Last-Minute Twist That Ruined It All

Allegiant (Divergent, #3)

LOTS of people will know why I chose this book, I don’t know what the author was thinking in building up such an awesome character and then in the end… I can see this ending ruined the series not only for me but again, what the hell?? That’s the way you want to end things? To that “twist”…

fuck you GIF by T-Pain

5. A Great Plot With Some Boring Characters

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1)

This series and characters certainly got better as things went along but in this first book I just couldn’t enjoy the characters especially Aislinn whose story I didn’t find the most exciting…. But I’m thinking of rereading this series so perhaps my opinions will change but that’s what I thought at first.

6. A Character Death That Ruined a Book (SPOILERS)

Endsinger (The Lotus War, #3)

Buruu….. 😢😩😭 Why do some authors have to be so damn cruel?

7. A Romance That Ruined the Book For You

Switched (Trylle #1)

This is a series I will continue but I didn’t connect with the romance here at all and found it most of the time forced and many times left me wondering why everything these days has to be a love story of sorts 😛

8. A Romance That You Wanted to Happen

Sirensong (Faeriewalker, #3)

I so wanted Dana and Keane to be together as I was shipping them all through the series honestly thinking they’s be great, I mean come on, despite being a tough guy Keane really liked Dana even if Dana tried to avoid those feelings and to me they were meant for each other… Mind you this is coming from someone with no romance experience and is not a huge fan of romance in books or anything in general 😉

9. A Scene You Have Petty Beef With

Blue Moon (The Immortals, #2)

I don’t think it’s only in this book, but even when I first read this series I just couldn’t get on with the constant scenes shoved in our faces where the MC is desperate to have sex with the totally hot love interest. I mean it’s obvious they eventually do have sex and that wasn’t explicitly described, but I just found it annoying and pathetic that all these characters could think about was their desire to fuck above everything else and that this was the only way for them to be “truly together” 😒 I can also see I’m not the only one to notice this!

If you’ve made it this far I’d like to thank you for reading and would like to tag anyone who fancies giving this tag a whirl! 🙂

  1. ❤ So glad you enjoyed doing this tag! Matched was SUCH a wasted potential series. I mean, book one is genuinely so interesting, so well written, has good ideas, and the rest is just……. okay? okay but who asked for this?
