House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
Expected publication: August 6th 2019
In a manor by the sea, twelve sisters are cursed.
Annaleigh lives a sheltered life at Highmoor, a manor by the sea, with her sisters, their father, and stepmother. Once they were twelve, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls’ lives have been cut short. Each death was more tragic than the last—the plague, a plummeting fall, a drowning, a slippery plunge—and there are whispers throughout the surrounding villages that the family is cursed by the gods.
Disturbed by a series of ghostly visions, Annaleigh becomes increasingly suspicious that the deaths were no accidents. Her sisters have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn’t sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts. Because who—or what—are they really dancing with?
When Annaleigh’s involvement with a mysterious stranger who has secrets of his own intensifies, it’s a race to unravel the darkness that has fallen over her family—before it claims her next.
An ocean inspired retelling of the twelve dancing princesses?
It is obvious from the synopsis and other reviews that there is a lot in this book in terms of mystery, magic and revelations and to top it all off there are many people who are also saying the writing is really atmospheric 😀 What mostly draws me in is the Gothic feel from the cover and description and the mystery that surrounds everything, also the fact that I’m a true sucker for all sorts of fairy tale retellings! I remember as a child really liking the tale of the twelve dancing princesses even though I can’t really remember the original tale now for the life of me and but there again I was always a fan of stories, myths, legends and fairy tales. I noticed immediately that there are not many of my GR friends who managed to get an early copy who didn’t like this, they all seemed to love the writing most of all and I can see what they mean in a way about the story being full of intrigue and originality and I haven’t even read it yet! 😉 I so want a copy of this when it comes out I know I’m one of the perhaps annoying people who keeps my library constantly busy with all the new books coming out that they just HAVE to get in. I want this… have you read this book yet? 🙂
