Can’t Wait Wednesday #29

Can’t Wait Wednesday/Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Wishful Endings and before it was hosted at Breaking the Spine. It was made to showcase future releases we’re excited for.

The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen

The Merciful Crow (The Merciful Crow, #1)

Expected publication: July 30th 2019

A future chieftain

Fie abides by one rule: look after your own. Her Crow caste of undertakers and mercy-killers takes more abuse than coin, but when they’re called to collect royal dead, she’s hoping they’ll find the payout of a lifetime.

A fugitive prince

When Crown Prince Jasimir turns out to have faked his death, Fie’s ready to cut her losses—and perhaps his throat. But he offers a wager that she can’t refuse: protect him from a ruthless queen, and he’ll protect the Crows when he reigns.

A too-cunning bodyguard

Hawk warrior Tavin has always put Jas’s life before his, magically assuming the prince’s appearance and shadowing his every step. But what happens when Tavin begins to want something to call his own?

From what I’ve seen of other reviews this seems to be a different type of fantasy that stands out from the crowds of typical YA fantasies. To me this sounds like it has a lot of mystery and revelations in the plot as well as many twists and turns to go around. Many people on GR were really interested to see the portrayal of crows in this book as they have said that crows normally have a negative reputation. I don’t know anything about how crows are portrayed I’m afraid but it will still be interesting to see the ideas in this story. I have a feeling this might be one of those books where the less you know the better and there is also the promise of complex flawed characters which if done right turn any good plot into a brilliant one. Another thing I will admit that is drawing me in is this cover, like many other reviewers I will say this cover and title do remind me a lot of Six of Crows which was awesome in its own rights 😉 I must as always, get a copy of this once it comes out which will probably once again involve my library going bankrupt with all these fabulous new books coming out 😛 I hope this is as original as other reviewers say as it sounds just as awesome as Six of Crows but I know I shouldn’t compare, this will be something totally new! 😉
