No Disclaimers Book Tag

Yay, my first tag of 2019 (and there will be plenty more to come especially now at the beginning of the year!) I saw this tag on The Book Dutchesses and know I’m getting more than a bit rusty with blogging so here we go!

1. Which trope (or tropes) in books, annoy you the most?

I think I have to agree with many that the insta love trope is one of the most annoying things I have come across in literature, I mean, to me that is one of the best ways to make the characters unbelievable and annoying. I also must say I get tired of seeing love triangles everywhere and the chosen one concept is more than a little overused, so I guess the fact that many authors copy these tropes from previous books is the most annoying thing of all 😛

2. Which writer or writers do you feel are overrated/overhyped?

Stephenie Meyer 100% I read Twilight and honestly could not understand what was wrong with so many young people to like that lump of pure crap! 💩💩💩💩💩 Lol, people I have met have said the books get better and I should read on but I’m not sure….. I weep for humanity either way.

3. What are your least favourite books you’ve read, since joining the book community?

Well Twilight and I think Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? has to be another one because once again I couldn’t see what had everyone else so enthralled and I did not see anything spectacular or philosophical in the plot or characters. But each to his own I suppose…

4. A terrible ending, that ruined an otherwise quality book?

I remember quite enjoying Candor by Pam Bachorz in the beginning but the ending just made it one huge pointless read where nothing was accomplished. Such a shame because this could have been a good series starter too but as a standalone it seriously needed a better ending than that!

5. Which fictional character(s) do you wish were not killed off?

If anyone has read Allegiant they will know who I mean here, such a waste…. 😥😥😥

6. What are some of your bookish pet peeves?

Even though I used to do it when I was little, I cannot stand dog earring books these days especially if it’s a brand new copy cause dog earring books never seems to fade away meaning the books are never the same afterwards. Those poor tortured books! 😛

7. What are some books you feel should have more recognition?

The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series by Michelle Paver, Mage’s Blood by David Hair, A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston and the Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi to name a few. But seriously there are so many masterpieces out there that need and deserve the spotlight and this sometimes makes me wonder what it is that makes a release (especially if it’s debut) so popular…

So there are my answers! What are your bookish pet peeves and most disliked tropes? 🙂

  1. 1. Agreed.
    2. Don’t trust them, they actually get worse. 😩
    7. I really like the point you made here!

I think I’m more burnt out on popular tropes. Without really good writing it feels like I’m reading the same book over and over.

    • I totally see where you’re coming from about popular tropes, they’re just repeats unless done exceptionally well. Hmm… I haven’t had a calling yet to read on in the Twilight saga and don’t know if I ever will, I just could not stand in the first book that the sole purpose of the book revolved around romance (terribly done romance in my opinion at that) never mind that it was listed as paranormal 😛 I could rant on… but thanks for stopping by any way 🙂
