The Bone Queen by Alison Croggon
Perfect for readers of Tolkien and Garth Nix, The Bone Queen is the highly anticipated prequel to the original Pellinor sequence, and will delight fans of critically acclaimed author Alison Croggon, as well as newcomers to the world of Pellinor.
Cadvan of Lirigon, one of the most powerful Bards of his time, has been exiled from the School of Lirigon for a grievous crime that unleashed the power of the Bone Queen. Isolated and guilt-ridden, he is burdened by memories of his dealings with the Dark. Meanwhile, across Edil-Amarandh, a number of disturbing events suggest that the Bone Queen may not have been successfully banished, as was previously believed. The Light is under threat, but does Cadvan have the strength to face the Bone Queen again?
It was towards sundown when they felt it; a shudder beneath them, as if the earth had twitched its skin. Afterwards some said that the light had flickered and briefly darkened, but what they saw was the shadow in their minds, a sudden knowledge that made their hearts stop beating for an endless moment before they started running.
“We argued long for Cadvan to be reinstated,” said Nelac at last. “But we lost.”
“If it weren’t for these dreams,” said Dernhil, “I might have agreed with those who argued against you.”
When I first started reading these books a few years back, I remember falling right in love with the writing, characters and the well crafted world building. I still haven’t finished the original series but still it is nice to find ways back into this magnificent world and I just know I will be very disappointed when I finish this series for good because the author has done a really amazing job in making the world and magic believable. I know when the I do finish the last book of this series it very well may feel like everything is wrapped up nicely, but how I do wish there would be more books in this universe! I also know that more books will mean more problems but so be it! This world is so much better than some of the other bestselling hyped YA fantasy worlds out there, its detailed and really well thought of so I really wish this author would write more because these books are some of the best fantasy I have come across in recent years. No lie. 😉
