Song for today

Skott – Porcelain

Hold your horses
Hold, hold the border
Don’t come closer
Don’t, don’t let go of me
I’m like porcelain
When you’re with me
All, all I know is

[Chorus]
Just about a million ways to harm you
All the things I shouldn’t say
Are the things that when I want to make you happy
Only comes out of me

[Verse 2]
What if I dropped, dropped the steering wheel
Closed my eyes
Drove, drove faster
I’m like porcelain
When I love you
I, I know it’s

[Chorus]
Just about a million ways to harm you
All the things I shouldn’t say
Are the things that when I want to make you happy
Only comes out of me
We have got the power of destruction
You can always let it fall
But when we try to work on something solid
It is too goddamn hard

[Bridge]
Give it a thought, it takes a lot
To trust that someone else will catch my fall (I’m like porcelain)
It takes a lifetime, breaking goes fast
When everything that matters made of glass

[Chorus]
Just about a million ways to harm you
All the things I shouldn’t say
Are the things that when I want to make you happy
Only comes out of me
Just about a million ways to harm you
All the things I shouldn’t say
Are the things that when I want to make you happy
Only comes out of me

We have got the power of destruction
You can always let it fall
But when we try to work on something solid
It is too goddamn hard

[Outro]
I’m like porcelain
I’m like porcelain
I’m like porcelain
I’m like porcelain
I’m like porcelain

I first discovered this song whilst reading the Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi and whilst it wasn’t easy for me to hear all the words, I was still intrigued to find out the songs meaning. Unlike yesterdays song, I was able to find the meaning of this one, apparently the song is about how like making things with porcelain, one can work very hard on something and put a lot of effort and detail into it, but then, like porcelain it can be ruined and shattered easily if met with impact, so in an instant all the hard work is gone. Looking back I think this song suits the book very well as the book was about a society that had faced collapse and I thought society can be viewed like that porcelain in a way where we have spent years and generations to build up our world and one catastrophic event can shatter it all… I know whenever I reread this book I will see if I can see more comparisons to this song 😉
