Book Blogger Hop: June 15th – 21st

Book Blogger Hop is hosted at Coffee Addicted Writer

The purpose of the Hop is to learn about new books, make friends with other bloggers, follow other blogs discover new books and gain more followers for your own blog. The hop will start on a Friday and end on a Thursday and will feature a weekly prompt asking a bookish question.

This weeks question:

You have just won a $100.00 Visa gift card. Will you spend the entire amount on a rare collector’s edition you have always wanted, or buy several newly-published books? Explain your choice.

Oh this is such a tough one… but in the end I think I’d use the card to buy some newly published books because I’ve never really been much of a collector and I mainly get books for their content and for my own enjoyment. I can see it would be nice to get a rare collectors edition because for me that would be a cherished possession and something that would make me proud to be a bibliophile. Sort of like a bookish medal. However, because there are always so many new exciting, diverse titles coming out I think eventually I’d make the choice to get newly published books because I feel this option would make me happier as there are more books to enjoy. But this only slightly outranks getting the collectors edition because wouldn’t it just be amazing to own something of your passion that is also special and rare? But I think in the end getting loads of other books is more joy because there’s more variety to savour and it gives a chance to experience many more new authors. 🙂

  2. Exactly! This is a great answer and I completely understand where you’re coming from. Owning a collector’s edition of one of your favourite series must be amazing, but, personally, I would also rather spend the money on a range of new books so that I have a variety of reading options. In my mind, $100 would be better spent on new books than a different version of one I’ve already read – though that’s probably due to the fact that I don’t think I have a particular ultimate favourite series.

Feel free to check out my own answer if you wish!
