WWW Wednesday is a bookish meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words
It consists on answering these three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
So once again I’ve only just started this and haven’t got far. As I said last week the premise promised some king of fantastical murder mystery and due to the descriptions of it being metaphysical it sounds like it could have some mind bending aspects too. Myself I’m just hoping it won’t be boring and that it will be thoroughly complex with many layers to the plot and characters. A lot of my friends on GR seem to like it and myself I’m now quite excited to see why there’s so much high praise on the cover and back. 🙂
This one was quite a letdown, which is a shame since it started so strongly 😛 . I went into it expecting this deep kind of philosophical thriller but it was hardly that, instead it had characters that were so strange I couldn’t connect with them and a setting I felt could have been explained more. There was a type of world building at the beginning but I felt that didn’t really paint the full picture of how the world changed so fast and the “de-evolution” of the characters. It was a fascinating concept, mind you, just executed poorly. I’ll save the rest for me review… 😉 😛 Have you read this and if so did you like it?
What I think I’ll read next
I was a little unsure about this one when I picked it up but the idea of it exploring the far future of mankind ultimately had me sold. Other reviews say it has a 50’s feel to it but the author had managed to completely capture and speculate the plot and setting.. I will also say I’m a little wary of picking up these Sci-Fi classics after the complete boredom and strangeness that was the Drowned World 😛 This one has a higher GR rating anyway… Have you read this book? 🙂
