Goodreads Monday #5 (26/3/18)

Goodreads Monday is hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners. It is when we show off a book from our TBR that we’re looking forward to reading.

Twelve Kings in Sharakhai  by Bradley P. Beaulieu

Twelve Kings (The Song of Shattered Sands, #1)Sharakhai, the great city of the desert, center of commerce and culture, has been ruled from time immemorial by twelve kings — cruel, ruthless, powerful, and immortal. With their army of Silver Spears, their elite company of Blade Maidens and their holy defenders, the terrifying asirim, the Kings uphold their positions as undisputed, invincible lords of the desert. There is no hope of freedom for any under their rule.

Or so it seems, until Çeda, a brave young woman from the west end slums, defies the Kings’ laws by going outside on the holy night of Beht Zha’ir. What she learns that night sets her on a path that winds through both the terrible truths of the Kings’ mysterious history and the hidden riddles of her own heritage. Together, these secrets could finally break the iron grip of the Kings’ power…if the nigh-omnipotent Kings don’t find her first.

I feel this one would make a good summer read also depending on if I go anywhere this summer. At the moment mum is interested in Namibia and I can already see which books I could take, but I imagine this one in the pile too. This is mainly because from what I’ve heard Namibia has a mostly desert landscape so this book would probably come to life there 😛 But seriously though, this book does sound really epic with layered plots and characters as well as a strong detailed world. I most certainly will read this one day when I travel as have I said I love culture in my fantasies? 🙂  Mind you it could be very boring but with that premise I can’t really imagine that being the case 😉

Have you read this series? What did you think? 🙂
